Welcome
to the official web site of the University of The
West Indies, St. Augustine’s
Dance Theatre. As one of the largest student groups
on campus with over 300 members, our organization offers
an extensive range of classes and activities, such
that regardless of whether you've never danced before,
or have been dancing for years, there is something
in the club for you.
At UWI Dance Theatre, it is our sincere hope that learning
dance enables our members to perceive, evaluate, and
understand dance as a performing art, as a transmitter
of culture, and as symbolic literature. We aspire to
enhance campus life by developing the person beyond
the academics and providing an extra-curricular activity
through dance.
UWI Dance Theatre provides its members with an assortment
of dance experiences through a variety of classes such
as
- Latin dance
- Ballroom
- African/soca/bele
- Hip-Hop
- Dance Hall
- Jazz
- Spiritual dance
- Modern dance
- Belly dance
- Indian dance
… just to name a few. These dance genres are fundamental ways we come to
know our
world, our heritage, and others around us.
The Dance Theatre also offers an array of social events.
These include our annual Concert, Christmas Dinner
and Dance, our After Exam and Latin Limes, our annual
Dance Competition and our Campus Carnival Band.
As a student group we try to keep costs to a minimum
and nowhere in the world will you receive so much value
for your money.
As our axiom goes “Mirror of Self Expression” we
seek to truly personify and reflect a true representation
of spirit and individuality on the University of the
West Indies, St. Augustine campus.
