About Us
Vision Statement
The UWI Dance Theatre envisions a society where dance
is an integral part of education and community life.
Mission Statement
Mirror of Self Expression. UWI Dance Theatre truly
personifies and reflects a true representation of
spirit and individuality through dance on the University
of
the West Indies, St. Augustine campus.
The UWI Dance Theatre has been an active organization
for over 8 years. Situated on the campus of the
University of the West Indies, St. Augustine,
the dance theatre
is known for showcasing several types of local,
regional and international dance pieces.
Our more than 300 members can choose from 8 different
classes each week.
Classes run for approximately nine weeks in the
first semester, culminating with our annual dance
concert.
In the second semester, classes continue for
approximately ten to thirteen weeks, interspersed
with our dance
competition and campus carnival activities. We
follow the University schedule, so there are
no classes
during Study Week and everything wraps up before
final exams.
We teach Ballroom, Latin, Hip Hop, African, Bele,
Soca, East Indian, Modern, and Belly Dance.
