Stephen Williams


Mr. Stephen Williams has been leading the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) as Commissioner of Police (Acting) since 7th August, 2012 and continuing. He has been serving as a police officer for the past 37 years in numerous Divisions, Sections and Branches of the Police Service and has performed in all ranks from Constable to Commissioner. During his career, he has served on several Cabinet appointed committees including the committee appointed to develop the transitional plan for the TTPS.
He has served as Gold Commander and led the multinational security task force for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, 2009 in Port of Spain. Mr. Williams holds the regional position of 1st Vice President of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police, 2016 and is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Police Executive Programme at the Institute of Criminology, Cambridge University, UK. He is the holder of several degrees, diplomas and certificates including:

  • Master Studies in Applied Criminology and Police Management - Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
  • Level 7 Executive Diploma in Strategic Management – Chartered Management – Institute of the United Kingdom.
  • Executive Master’s in Business Administration – University of the West Indies.
  • Executive Diploma in Public Sector Management - University of the West Indies, Institute of Business.
  • Legal Education Certificate – Hugh Wooding Law School.
  • Bachelor of Laws Degree – University of London.

Mr. Williams was admitted to practice as an Attorney at law in Trinidad and Tobago in 1995 and is presently pursuing doctoral studies in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine. Instructively, Mr. Williams is the main advocate for moving the TTPS into an Evidence-Based Policing Organization and continues to make a significant contribution towards transforming the Police Service in Trinidad and Tobago.
