The Department of Economics, UWI, St. Augustine will host its inaugural Conference on the Economy (COTE), on April 12th and 13th 2007. The Conference will focus on some of the most pressing economic development issues facing Trinidad and Tobago.
The Conference will feature current and past members of staff of the Department of Economics. Dr. Trevor Farrell, senior lecturer, will deliver the feature address on the conference theme Trinidad and Tobago’s Economic Transformation and sustainable Development. Drawing on the recently completed work with the late Lloyd Best, Dr. Eric St Cyr, will focus on the challenges of Economic Management in a time of plenty. Other presenters at COTE ’07 include Professor Dennis Pantin, Professor Karl Theodore Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir, Dr. Roger Hosein, Dr. Marlene Attzs, Dr. Lester Henry, Dr. Ronald Ramkissoon, Mr. Gregory McGuire, Mr. Martin Franklin and Mr. Anthony Paul, CEO of Caribbean Energy Specialists.
COTE 2007 will provide cogent analysis of various aspects of the Trinidad and Tobago economy including Government Fiscal Management, Balance of Payments trends, Exchange Rate Management, Financial Sector Development, the Transportation Sector, the Development Plan for Tobago, Economic Transformation, Resource Based Industrialization Strategy, Governance of Natural Resources and Social Sector issues such as poverty and income distribution.
COTE 2007 takes place at the Conference Room, UWI School of Education, St. Augustine.
