Patricia Mohammed

Patricia Mohammed is a scholar, writer and filmmaker. She is currently Professor of Gender and Cultural Studies at the Institute of Gender and Development Studies having recently served as the Campus Chair, School for Graduate Studies and Research at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad. She is a pioneer in second wave feminist activism and the development of gender studies at tertiary level in the Caribbean and has published widely in these areas. Among her major publications are Gender Negotiations among Indians in Trinidad, 1917–1947 (2001) and Imaging the Caribbean: Culture and Visual Translation (2009). She has recently completed a six-part documentary film series entitled, A Different Imagination, of which “Coolie Pink and Green” is an award-winning film. She is founder and Executive Editor of the Caribbean Review of Gender Studies since 2006.
