The Regional Blueprint: Building Bridges Across Borders. 
 
The UWI Alternative Break Programme offers students an immersive opportunity to step beyond the traditional classroom setting and engage in meaningful community service, both locally and regionally. Combining hands-on volunteer work with critical reflection, the programme develops civic leadership, cross-cultural competency, and practical soft skills through strategic community partnerships.
 
Tentative Travel Window: May 24–29, 2027 (Close of Semester II)
 
Programme Highlights
  • Immersive Service: Travel and serve alongside peers on short-term local or regional service projects.
  • Pre-Departure Preparation: Selected participants complete interactive pre-departure workshops, team-building exercises, background research, and local engagement initiatives.
  • Student-Led Impact: Participants actively contribute to fundraising, logistics, and project coordination, sharpening real-world leadership skills.
  • The Destination Reveal: To keep the journey exciting, project themes and target locations remain confidential throughout the selection process — destinations are officially revealed to accepted participants during Programme Orientation!
Key Focus Areas
  • Youth & Community Development: Empowering local communities through targeted outreach and skill-building initiatives.
  • Climate Action & Environmental Conservation: Driving sustainability and environmental stewardship in the field.
  • Alumni Engagement & Cross-Border Collaboration: Partnering with regional stakeholders and alumni networks to foster cultural exchange.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Academic Standing: Must be in Level 2 or above (Level 1 students are ineligible as a cumulative GPA is required).
  • Academic Performance: Must maintain a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Community Focus: Preference is given to students who demonstrate a history of volunteerism, leadership, and active community involvement.
