Research and Innovation
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is actively building its strength in research and innovation. Related activities broadly cover the scope of Communication Systems, Computer Systems Engineering, Control Systems, Electronic Systems and Energy Systems in alignment with the thematic centres of the Department's study programmes. As is the case for the Department's programmes of study, research and innovation are guided by its mission:
To produce competent, bold, articulate engineering graduates and to conduct relevant and innovative research and development for the social, economic and intellectual growth of the Caribbean region.
Research and innovation are conducted within the Department proper as well as through a number of specialist departmental Centres. These Centres include the Real Time Systems Group and the Steelpan Development Centre. The Department is at the forefront of research in the technology of the steel pan. It is also an institutional forerunner on matters relating to Intellectual Property rights covering engineering innovations.
