Learning Outcomes of the B.Tech Programme

The B.Tech Programme is designed on the lines of learning outcomes specified by “IET Learning Outcomes Handbook, June 2012” to ensure to maintain international standards and to meet the local and regional needs and requirements.   

Furthermore a graduate of the UWI B.Tech programme has the institutional backing of over 60 years of teaching and research in engineering. The UWI is stable, its degrees internationally accredited and globally recognized. The UWI is viewed as the region’s premier engineering institution and as a graduate join the ranks from which many of the region’s eminent engineers came through.

To satisfy the learning outcomes and academic requirements of Incorporated Engineer (I Eng), graduates must be able to demonstrate the following:  

Scientific Principles and Methodology
Knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles underpinning relevant current technologies, and their evolution.

  1. Mathematics
  2. Knowledge and understanding of mathematics necessary to support application of key engineering principles

  3. Performance Classification and Modelling
  4. Ability to monitor, interpret and apply the results of analysis and modelling in order to bring about continuous improvement. Ability to use the results of analysis to solve engineering problems, apply technology and implement engineering processes.

  5. Quantitative Methods and Computer Based Problem Solving
  6. Ability to apply quantitative methods and computer software relevant to their engineering technology discipline(s), frequently within a multidisciplinary context.

  7. Systems
  8. Ability to apply a systems approach to engineering problems through the know-how of the application of the relevant technologies.  

  9. Design
    • Define a problem and identify constraints
    • Design solutions according to customer and user needs.
    • Use creativity and innovation in a practical context.
    • Ensure fitness for purpose (including operation, maintenance, reliability etc.).
    • Adapt designs to meet their new purposes or applications.
