Faculty of Food and Agriculture Research Day 2017

The campus community is encouraged to save the date to attend the Faculty of Food and Agriculture Research Day at Sir Frank Stockdale Building, The University of the West Indies – St. Augustine, on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s Research Day is “TechAgri Transfer: Advancing Research for Food and Nutrition Security.” This event is a celebration of the research and innovative ideas by our undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers and will feature an opening ceremony, launch of the Faculty Research Digest, oral and poster presentations, as well as exhibits.

The objectives of this Research Day are:

1. To foster research relationships among the faculty, staff, and students, as well as stakeholders.
2. To encourage practice-based research.
3. To help undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as, new faculty establish their research agendas.
4. To give students and new faculty an opportunity to present and receive feedback on their research and research ideas.
5. To provide young faculty, students, and staff with an opportunity to showcase their research to their peers and develop presentation skills.
6. To motivate successful research projects to attract external funds to support research activities, thereby, increasing the University’s revenue.
7. To encourage collaboration and develop cooperation and teamwork while inspiring commitment and trust in a cross-functional manner.
8. To envision the future at the regional level in order to guide the research focus and inspire other to join in bringing about necessary change.
9. To show the relevance of the UWI research to domestic and international development.

 
In addition to providing an opportunity for students to present their research, this event allows a chance for the students to learn about other research happening in their faculty and to develop research collaborations with others outside their fields of expertise.

Additionally, the Faculty of Food and Agriculture has a multitude of researchers with national and international reputations in research and this Research Day will provide a forum for them to showcase the breadth and depth of their work to their colleagues.

Presentations

Poster presentation
A presenter in this category shall prepare a poster according to the prescribed size and format for display in a designated area for viewing by the audience. A poster must be manned during the judging period.
Oral presentation
A presenter in this category shall prepare and deliver a presentation to an audience and a panel of judges. Twenty (20) minutes will be allotted for ORAL presentation of research papers, followed by a five-minute discussion period.
