MAJOR IN LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES
The Major in Latin American Studies shall consist of a minimum of 36 credits, taken as follows:
Level I
- SPAN 1001 Spanish Language IA
- SPAN 1002 Spanish Language IB
- SPAN 1701 Introduction to Hispanic Literature - Narrative
- SPAN 1702 Introduction to Hispanic Literature - Poetry and Drama
- GOVT 1000 Introduction to Politics I or GOVT 1001 Introduction to Politics II
(Pre-requisite for Level II/III Government courses) - FOUN 1001 English for Academic Purposes
- FOUN 1102 Academic Writing for Different Disciplines (Option A or B)
- PLUS 9 additional Level I credits, i.e., 3 Level I courses of which a maximum of 2 courses may be from out of Faculty, such as these courses which are STRONGLY recommended:

Level II
- SPAN 2001 Spanish Language IIA
- SPAN 2002 Spanish Language IIB
- SPAN 2202 Culture and Society in Spanish America
- HIST 2101 History of Latin America (1810-1910)
- HIST 2102 History of Latin America (1910 to present)
- FOUN 1210 Science, Medicine, Technology in Society
- FOUN 1301 Law, Governance, Economy in Society
- PLUS 9 additional Level II/III credits, i.e., 3 Level II/III FHE (or out of Faculty) courses, such as these courses which are STRONGLY recommended:

- HIST 3603 From Munroe to Castro: US Relations with Latin America and the Caribbean
- GOVT 3019 Introduction to Politics and Government in Latin America

- HUMN 3099 Caribbean Studies OR an equivalent course
- PLUS 15 additional Level II/III credits (i.e., 5 Level II/III courses of which a maximum of 3 courses may be from out of Faculty).
