Languages of the Caribbean and language contact phenomena.

 

The description of these languages is a prime concern, as well as information on their relative vitality, as several are suffering attrition and death. Those studied include:

 

v     Berbice and Skepi Dutch;

v     Bhojpuri in Trinidad;

v     French-lexicon Creole;

v     Jamaican Creole;

v     Portuguese in Trinidad;

v     Spanish in Trinidad;

v     Tobagonian Creole;

v     Trinidadian Creole;

v     Trinidad and Tobago Standard English;

v     Caribbean Creoles (other).

 

Discourse Analysis

 

 

v     Discourse of medical interaction;

v     Discourse of politics;

v     Discourse of the press;

v     Discourse of university students;

v     Gendered discourse;

v     The Language of Literature.

 

Language Acquisition and Development

 

 

 

First language acquisition and learning in

the local milieu:

v     In infancy and early childhood;

v    At secondary school stage;

v    At tertiary stage.

 

Second language acquisition:

v     Cognitive styles;
