Undergraduate Programmes

 

The Criminology Unit offers a Major and Minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice.  The undergraduate programmes in Criminology and Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary programme which exposes the student to the main theoretical, research, legal, policy and other debates within the field.  The degree exposes the student to the main fields of study within Criminology, including research methods and analysis, youth violence and justice, policing, regional and international security issues, penology and crime policy.  The aim of the programme is to create a graduate who has the knowledge and skills to critically interrogate criminological issues, and offer workable solutions to the crime problems at the local and regional levels.  Graduates will be prepared to enter into a professional career having achieved some measure of versatility and marketability.  Furthermore, students will be better positioned to define their area of specialization when undertaking studies at the graduate level.  The major and minor are offered in both day and evening formats.

 

 

 

 

Postgraduate Programmes

 

The post-graduate programmes are designed for persons currently or desirous of pursuing a scholarly career in Criminology and Criminal Justice as well as for persons currently or desirous of pursuing a career in such professional areas as the protective service, social welfare, counseling, teaching, research, judicial administration, mediation and rehabilitation.  The Criminology Unit offers a Master of Science, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice
