“Chat and Be Inspired!”

The Department of Management Studies hosted its 2nd Conversations with CEOs series for Academic Year 2017/2018, featuring Dr. Rampersad Motilal - Director, Energy Institute, The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).

Both staff and students were treated to the stories that made the man and his success. He left us all with thought provoking nuggets for our own personal development.

Some important and interesting advice to remember:

Studying is enjoyable and any degree you study, you should develop yourself differently.

Continuous learning allows you to enhance yourself. You don't want to use the same tools for everything. As you interface with the unknown, you grow. You now have more information and more knowledge and experience. You come to realize how big the circle of unknown is where you have to continue pushing, and this is where you want to differentiate yourself. You want to get the gems of knowledge as there is no shortage of information.

Take responsibility and be accountable for what is entrusted to you. The reason I advanced in my career was not because of my qualifications... Much of your success doesn't rely on your qualifications. The real test is when you get the job and how you perform on the job. Performance requires directed intelligence and that can only come from proper attitude. There must be honesty and basic integrity. It doesn’t matter the grades, it’s if you’re doing your best. All you need is to take responsibility and people will hunt you down. With bigger responsibility comes more pay.

Maximize on opportunities as every single activity has unlimited potential. That we shall all capitalize on all opportunities, possibilities and experiences as there is no one experience that gives that one path to success. There are thousands of paths to success and they should be maximized. Thus, when we’re talking about opportunities and potential, please don’t constrain yourself.

We all have a winding path. The critical thing is wherever you find yourself, try your best there and other opportunities will open up for you.

Life: it is a Hit and Miss - we don't live by perfect scores, we live by batting averages.
