FST PRIZES AND AWARDS CEREMONY – 2015/2016
The 2016 Prizes and Award Ceremony for the 2015/2016 academic year of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) was held on Tuesday 18th October 2016 at the Daaga Auditorium. This year’s proceedings was chaired by the new Deputy Dean – Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Judith Gobin.
The Dean, Professor Indar Ramnarine welcomed all and commended staff and students on a productive year and encouraged continued excellence.

The German Ambassador, His Excellency Dr. Lutz Görgens delivered the very interesting and engaging feature address. The German Embassy, headed by Ambassador Görgens, continues to be a dedicated supporter of the FST. In his address he encouraged all students to continue striving for excellence in their chosen fields.
The 2015/2016 valedictorian was Ms. Jiwani Peters. Ms. Peters, a Vincentian, graduated with a B.Sc. (General) Degree with joint majors in Biology and Chemistry. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Avion Peters, who attained a B.Sc. (General) Degree with joint majors in Biology and Environmental & Natural Resources Management.
Prizes and awards were given for the following:
- Best performances by Undergraduate and Post Graduate students by Departments
- Best Performances in the Pre-Science (N1) programme
- Special Faculty Prizes for Best Performances
- Overall Faculty Prizes for Best Performances
- Achievement of First Class Honours
- Staff awards (Best Researcher, Most Outstanding Teacher and Most Valuable Employee)
The Special Faculty Prize was awarded to both Ms. Sariah Nathan and Mr. Jameel Sahadath and the overall Faculty Prize Winners (Best Performances) for this year were Mr. Petronald Green Jr. (Year 1), Ms. Farrah Mathura (Year 2) and Mr. Jason Mungal (Year 3).
The FST was honoured by the presence of newly appointed Campus Principal - Professor Brian Copeland, the Campus Registrar - Mr. Richard Saunders, a number of Donors of Prizes, awardees and their parents, guardians and friends, as well as, FST and other UWI staff members.
|Priya Maraj, past student of Lakshmi’s Girls Hindu College, won the Presidents Medal Gold for Science. She is currently a year one student in the FST reading for a BSc (General) with majors in Biology and Biochemistry.|
After an extremely successful 2015/2016 academic year, the Faculty is well-poised to forge full speed ahead to bigger and better achievements.
