Course Description

Principles Medical Microbiology gives students a detailed insight into the principles and techniques of microbiology applied to human medicine. It covers medically important bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Emphasis is placed on classification, detection and diagnosis of microbial pathogens and parasites in addition to their mechanisms and clinical manifestation. Students would also gain an understanding of epidemiological factors that contribute to human infectious disease and be introduced to the uses and challenges of antimicrobial and anti-parasitic agents for managing microbial diseases. The teaching and learning methods include lectures/tutorials and laboratory sessions.
