C.I.T.S. FAQ's - Students
Q. How do I configure my laptop for Wireless Internet Access?
A. Wireless Internet Access is available for any registered (financially cleared) student of the St. Augustine Campus. The Student Wireless Network requires an identification logon for access. Click the links to download the Student Wireless Network Configuration Guide for Windows XP | Windows VISTA | Mac OS X.
Q. How to update your Firefox setting required for ISA access
To ensure that Firefox works correctly with Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) web-caching solution, you will need to make a setting change. If you use the same computer on and off campus, i.e. your laptop, this setting change will not affect your Internet access when you are away from campus. The setting change is only required for ISA authentication so will only be used when you access the Internet when you are on campus.
From within Firefox, type "about:config" in the URL address bar.
Scroll down the options visible to you until you get to "network.negotiate-auth.allow-proxies"
Double-click on "network.negotiate-auth.allow-proxies" to toggle between "true" and "false". This option must be set to "false".
Click the "Home" button to close the configuration settings window.
You have successfully changed your Firefox settings to work with ISA.
Q. How can I reset my mySecureArea password?
A. Students access mySecureArea via the Student Portal to review their registration status, academic history etc. The Student portal password can be reset at any of the computer labs available on campus. Students are required perform verification via picture ID or email address before their password is reset. 'Over The Phone' password resets are discouraged.
Q. How can I purchase a Dell Laptop?
A. Students can purchase a Dell laptop or desktop directly from Dell Trinidad. You can configure a computer by going directly to Dell Trinidad and emailing this configuration to pcorders@sta.uwi.edu. You will then be contacted with an updated quotation which can be paid for at the Bursary. Your computer will be ordered and will be shipped to Campus I.T. Services within 4 - 6 weeks.
