The selection panel will seek to identify outstanding
practitioners who are able to provide evidence of their
performance under the criteria listed below.
It is recognized that candidates may not exhibit excellence
across all the criteria.
Design of Instruction
This includes appropriateness of content and teaching methods,
assessment practices, learning resources employed etc.
Applicants should:
- Demonstrate a thorough command of the subject
which they teach;
- Organize course materials with clear
aims, goals and objectives and intellectual challenges;
- Design
and/or redesign courses and present them cogently,
demonstrating alignment between course objectives,
teaching methods and assessment;
- Participate in and/or organize ongoing efforts
to improve the quality of instruction to students;
- Develop/be
involved in collaborative efforts to develop innovative
methods of teaching.
Motivation and facilitation of student learning
Applicants should:
- Inspire in students independence, control
and critical or original thinking;
- Encourage intellectual
interests in new students and stimulate senior students
to creative work;
- Exhibit concern and respect for students.
Contribution to the University's teaching culture/performance
Areas would include:
- Active promotion of the scholarship of teaching
and conduct of research on teaching and learning in higher
education;
- Support and guidance to colleagues, new colleagues
in particular, in their efforts to improve their teaching;
- Organization
of and/or participation in workshops, symposia or conferences
on university teaching.
