IIR gives students the opportunity to combine their international relations programmes of study with other marketable interests. The IIR engages in teaching and research, as well as the advanced study of international relations of developing countries, in particular Latin America and the Caribbean. Courses emphasize a multidisciplinary approach to the study of International Relations.

In the academic year 2008-2009, the M.Sc. was offered at the Anton de Kom (ADEK) University in Suriname. In 2010-2011, the M.Sc. in Global Studies will be offered at the University of Guyana in Guyana.
Students may be interns in international agencies, NGOs, media and think tanks in Port of Spain, Trinidad. They may also volunteer to facilitate international events in Port of Spain, such as the recently concluded Fifth Summit of the Americas. Each year, students benefit from study tours, typically to CARICOM in Georgetown, Guyana and ADEK in Paramaribo, Suriname. We have also toured Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Cuba and Washington D.C. Our students often support Model United Nations at home and abroad.
