International Exchange
Who can participate?
The exchange programme is open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a full-time degree at the UWI. If you are an undergraduate student you must have completed one academic year and achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or the equivalent of a “B” average. If you are a graduate student you will be required to submit a summary of your research proposal with an explanation of why you wish to visit the particular university that you request.
How long will I be away?
UWI students may spend one semester or an academic year studying at one of our partner institutions. The undergraduate student exchange is usually done in the second year of study.
Where can I study?
The UWI has approximately 150 institutional agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with leading institutions around the world. This number will increase as new strategic links are forged by the various faculties. Exchange agreements have been established with institutions in the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Canada, USA, Brazil and Japan among others.
What can I study?
Undergraduate students are expected to study the equivalent of their second year courses at a host university. The key is finding a host university offering UWI-equivalent second-year courses.
Will these courses count toward my degree?
UWI-equivalent courses pursued on a student exchange are for credit. You will have to study just as hard as these credits are added to your overall degree and will contribute to your GPA. Students who have participated in student exchange programmes will be awarded a degree from UWI on successful completion of the required courses.
