Event Description:

The Blackman family and Media 21 have collaborated to celebrate the life and legacy of a national icon, the late Garfield Blackman: Ras Shorty I: Father of Sokah / Soca, Chutney Soca and Jamoo.

This unique genre called Soca (the fusion of East Indian and African rhythms) has won the hearts of many globally and has become part of our Caribbean DNA.

It is only at the third UWI Classic Concert will you hear Rikki Jai, Explainer, Kevon Thomas, Olatunji, RemBunction, & Gypsy along with members of the Blackman family perform the Ras Shorty I classics we know and love, along with musical renditions of their own.

The Classic Concert experience promises to be a night filled with Sweet Music and splendour as the cast is supported by talented students of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts. They will perform with the Classic Concert band, dance & share the stage with other surprise performances. Guests will be welcomed with a complimentary beverage and artist will be available to mix and mingle at the end of the evening.

We look forward to hosting you this Sunday, March 11 at 6 pm at Queen’s Hall as we celebrate "The Journey.”

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) Theatre Hall Fund.
