Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Fish Biology, Fisheries Biology, Fisheries Management, or related discipline and a track record of scholarly activity, such as postdoctoral research/training and refereed research publications. Candidates must also have considerable experience in teaching at the tertiary level. 

Further consideration will be given to candidates possessing:


  • Research and teaching experience in Population Genetics and working in tropical systems
  • Experience in securing external research funding, pursuing independent research, managing laboratories and development of university level courses/programmes
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, curriculum development and educational technology





  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries Biology and Management, Sustainable Natural Resources Use and Management
  • Developing a high quality research programme
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students
  • Assisting in curriculum reform



Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals of integrity and who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also be:



  • Be willing to work collaboratively with academic and support staff within the Department
  • Have a strong research agenda indicating the ability to publish in high quality journals
