Qualifications and Experience

Ph.D degree from a recognized institution in one or more of the following, or related, areas:

 

Economics, Sociology, Social Policy, Demography, Statistics, Survey Analysis and Design

 

Evidence of research and scholarly activity related to areas of qualification is required.

 

Special Responsibilities

 

  • Engaging in research that will build one or more of the Institute’s research focus areas of:

 

Economic Growth and Development, Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Social and Economic Measurement; Population Issues and Policy in the Caribbean; Climate Change; Disaster Management

 

  • Pursuing rigorous research programme
  • Teaching and supervising graduate students in the Institute’s M.Sc., M. Phil and Ph.D. programmes

 

 

Candidates are required to align training and research activities with the needs of the national and regional communities. Candidates specialising in research areas of importance to the Caribbean region may have an advantage.

 

Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team environment. Candidates should possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also be:

 

  • research focused
  • student centered 
  • able to interact positively with academic and support staff within the Institute and the University
  • able to interface with scholars and professionals locally, regionally and internationally
