ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN II (GRADE 8)

Applications are invited for the post of Engineering Technician II (Grade 8) in the Computer Laboratory, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

 

Duties of the post include:

 

  1. Providing technical support regarding the configuration and maintenance of core networking infrastructure.

  2. Installing, maintaining and supporting computer hardware, software and peripheral devices performing additions, changes and upgrades when required. 

  3. Maintaining and managing Departments’ servers including license managers, print servers and file servers.

  4. Facilitating and assisting both staff and students with connectivity to the Department’s wireless network.

  5. Advising and assisting staff and students in the purchase of computers and peripherals and providing functional checks and software installations of new computers bought through The University.

  6. Providing training to staff and students in the use of computer software and peripherals.

  7. Facilitating video conferencing in the Department enabling real time two (2) way communications with the Department/Faculty and external parties.

  8. Reporting warranty breakdowns to suppliers and vendors and ensuring the timely completion of repairs.

  9. Requesting quotations for computer parts and accessories from vendors and assisting with the purchasing of these as required.

  10. Administering policies and standards governing the Department’s IT infrastructure.

  11. Performing any other related duties as assigned by the Dean, Faculty of Engineering or the Head, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants should have knowledge and familiarity with The University’s mission, structure, policies and procedures. Applicants must possess specialised knowledge and technical training in Data Communications, Information Technology or Computer Engineering. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours when required and must have an understanding of the OSH Act.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required: A BSc degree in Computer Science or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

Desired:

 

A Master’s degree in Computer Science from a recognized institution would be an asset.

 

Experience:

Three (3) years’ relevant work experience. Candidates with working experience at a tertiary level institution would enjoy an advantage.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 8 of the salary scale.
