Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in International Relations or in a related field, with considerable teaching experience at the postgraduate level and a strong record of publications in the field. Areas of specialization must include issues related to one or more of the following:

 

  • Climate Change and Sustainable Development such as SIDS Development, Issues and Resilience
  • Contemporary, Social and Economic Problems in Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Development Financing and Climate Change
  • Disaster Risk Management and Regional Cooperation
  • Climate Change and Migration Studies

 

Further consideration would be given to candidates who possess demonstrable outputs or interest relating to relevant research

 

Special Responsibilities

 

  • Teaching students at the level of the Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and the M.Sc. Degree in Global Studies/International Relations
  • Supervising the research work of candidates for the M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees in International Relations
  • Participating in the research programme of the Institute in particular field of specialization
  • Teaching duties in a face-to-face environment and by distance delivery modes, including electronic transmission

The Institute places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team environment. Candidates should possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also:

 

  • Possess the ability to contribute significantly to the work of the Institute in teaching, research, grant writing, curriculum development and supervision of graduate students
  • Be dependable, reliable and able to produce work of a high quality
  • Have a flexible approach to work
  • Have a good work ethic, sensitivity and tact
  • Possess the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people; staff, students and colleagues
  • Be able to liaise with colleagues where work interests overlaps
