ASSISTANT LECTURER / LECTURER IN SPANISH

Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a Doctorate in Translation Studies (Spanish must be among the chosen language pair/s) with considerable teaching experience at the tertiary level and areas of specialization in one or more of the following:

 

  • literary translation and reception
  • the history of translation
  • corpus-based translation studies
  • gender issues in translation
  • news translation

 

Further consideration will be given to candidates who possess:

 

  • Native or near-native competence in spoken and written Spanish
  • Knowledge of recent theories and methodologies in Translation Studies and Translation software
  • A solid publication profile

 

Experience in Interpreting Techniques would be an asset

 

Special Responsibilities

 

  • Teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Engaging scholarly activities including research and publications
  • Serving on committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Providing academic advisement of majors
  • Participating in the design and development of courses, teaching materials and or programmes in Translation
  • Collaborating with colleagues in teaching, administration, cultural and extra-curricular events organised by the Spanish section, the Department, the Faculty and the Campus
  • Supervising undergraduate research projects and participate in academic advising

 

 

 

Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have an excellent command (C1) of both oral and written English.  Candidates must also have the:

 

  • ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • capacity to work collaboratively toward common goals and meet very specific deadlines
  • technological competencies particular to a web-enabled learning environment
