Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a blend of academic, research and industrial experience; proven leadership experience; a strong international scholarly reputation for Chemical Engineering research; demonstrated ability to lead related research within the Department and to win substantial external research funding. The candidate’s records should demonstrate: 

 

  • Outstanding teaching and research at the tertiary level.
  • A track record of distinguished, original and innovative work; high quality publications in peer-reviewed international journals
  • Outstanding success in and wide recognition of professional activities
  • Corporate membership in a reputable professional institution
  • Active engagement in industry, with considerable industry experience as a distinguished Chemical Engineer
  • Proven success in grant applications

 

Further consideration will be given to candidates with specialization in one or more of the following areas:

 

  • Energy Studies
  • Process Safety
  • Multiphase Transport and Processing
  • Corrosion Engineering

 

Complementary expertise in Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and Reaction Engineering will be an advantage.

 

Special Responsibilities

 

  • Teaching and providing academic support to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • Contributing to the Department’s R&D portfolio through a mix of academic publications in the focus areas mentioned and through impactful development and industry support activities in Chemical Engineering
  • Contributing significantly to teaching and curriculum development in the discipline of Chemical Engineering
  • Representing the Department at various national, regional and international workshops, conferences and seminars
  • Providing administrative assistance
