Chamber of Commerce Luncheon with guest speaker, the Honourable Chief Justice

On May 13th 2016 several law students attended the "Breakfast Briefing with the Chief Justice" hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The forum allowed for a dialogue between the Chief Justice and members of the business community on the state of the judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago. The President of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Robert Trestrail, gave an insightful overview of some of the problems that afflict the judicial system along with suggestions for improvements put forward by the Chamber.Also, the Honorable Chief Justice, Ivor Archie O.R.T.T., delivered a riveting presentation entitled "A Restorative Dialogue: Main Initiatives of the Judiciary."

The presentation highlighted measures which would reduce recidivism and mitigate the backlog of cases in the Criminal Justice System. In his closing statement, the Honourable Chief Justice said "What we need is for you to lend whatever talent or gift you possess to the cause of nation-building, of carving a better and more productive future for those, who if left to themselves, threaten the safety and security of us all." Representatives of the Law Society of the UWI St. Augustine Campus made a pledge to the Chief Justice to lend their support to the cause of nation-building and to lend aid where needed.
