Welcome to the Office of Institutional Advancement and Internationalisation (OIAI)

The OIAI fosters partnerships with premier institutions within the Caribbean and around the world to enhance UWI’s standing as a world class institution. In tandem with UWI’s vision of becoming a leading global university centred in the Caribbean, OIAI has developed meaningful engagements with various stakeholders and has fostered interactions and collaborations in areas that benefit our students, staff and stakeholders.

Our Mission and vision embodies UWI strategic thrusts of promoting the UWI brand name regionally and internationally as we raise the awareness of our student and staff. Additionally, OIAI engages UWI faculties and Centres to enhance processing services that facilities various activities on the St Augustine Campus.

Meet the Director

Mr. Sharan SinghSharan Chandradath Singh is the Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement and Internationalisation at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad, West Indies.  This is his second stint with the UWI having served in their Business Development and Principal’s Offices in the past.  Prior to re-joining the UWI, Mr. Singh was a Senior Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consultants Limited in Trinidad.

Mr. Singh holds Masters Degrees in International Business Administration and International Administration from North American Universities.  He grew up in a diplomatic family and has lived in Trinidad, England, Canada, India and the United States.

His current responsibilities at the UWI are to lead the Internationalisation, Fundraising, Alumni Affairs, Commercialisation and Major Transformational Projects initiatives of the St. Augustine Campus.  He is also the current Acting Chair of the National Scholarships Committee for the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and is involved in a wide range of community based activities both on behalf of the UWI and in his private capacity.

 

The OIAI comprises five independent units:

International Office

International Office: Promotes and enhances international collaborations, mobility, best practices and opportunities for growth & development

Commercialisation Office

Commercialisation: Responsible for identifying and leveraging assets for commercial viability (physical and human)

Fundraising

Fundraising: Establishes a philanthropic capability for the Campus to solicit and obtain gifts for the Campus from donors, graduates, private and public sector diaspora etc.

Alumni Affairs

Alumni Affairs: Establishes and maintains effective relationships between graduates and their Alma Mater

Transformational Projects

Transformational Projects: Responsible for identifying and managing major transformational projects (Campus-wide) including fast-tracking the establishment of new Campuses, enhancing profitability of Campus businesses (IT Store, Bookshop, Multimedia Production Center), creating new opportunities for growth and development
