Strategic Initiatives

During the period 2007-2012, the UWI made significant progress in its core business areas – teaching and learning, graduate studies, research and service to our region.  At the UWI St. Augustine Campus, our student numbers more than tripled and we saw considerable growth in the numbers of programmes offered and well as major expansion of our physical plant and enhancements to the range of services offered.

While these achievements are all commendable, we do have to continuously work at improving what we do if we are to achieve our strategic vision of being a globally recognized, regionally integrated, innovative and internationally competitive university deeply rooted in all aspects of Caribbean development.

The recently approved UWI Strategic Plan 2012-2017 will serve to guide our Campus closer to realizing this vision.  The intention is to consolidate our gains while continuing to enhance our competitiveness as an institution.

As our Vice Chancellor has stated in our new Strategic Plan, “our success will require individual commitment, creative thinking and execution”.  We will all need to work steadfastly at aligning our operations and resources, increasing our productivity and efficiency and continuously engaging our students, staff and stakeholders as we build a more robust and sustainable institution.

Each one of us is an agent of change in this transformation process.  As we press ahead, I am counting on your full support to help us achieve our strategic vision.
