The Trinidad & Tobago Guardian Opinion Polls

Over the last two decades, the Centre has been commissioned to undertake a series of polls by the Trinidad Guardian. These polls have become a widely cited source of public opinion on the social and political landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.

Psi Chi: International Honor Society in Psychology

The ANSA McAL Psychological Research Centre was instrumental in the establishment of a local chapter of Psi Chi to benefit Psychology students at The University of the West Indies. In March 2013, the Centre, in collaboration with the Department of Behavioural Sciences, hosted the Installation and Inaugural Induction Ceremony of The UWI St. Augustine Campus Psi Chi Chapter. The induction ceremony was led by Psi Chi Faculty Advisors, Professor Derek Chadee, Director of the ANSA McAL Psychological Research Centre, and Dr. Jannel Phillip, faculty member of the Psychology Unit. During the ceremony, 40 undergraduate, postgraduate and alumni members were inducted after pledging to accept Psi Chi’s standards and purposes as their own. Members were approved by the Faculty Advisors based on their academic merit – as outlined by the Psi Chi Constitution – and personal standards of behaviour.

The Local Chapter has since continued to grow and to undertake several activities over the last three years. These include hosting annual events such as a research writing workshop for undergraduate students in Psychology, a student conference to showcase research conducted by Psychology students, and the “One Mic Night” social to encourage creative expression among the campus community. The group has also endeavoured to impact the wider community by engaging in a donation drive for the St. Maria Goretti Home and partnering with Habitat for Humanity on a house building project.
