Financial Assistance
HARDSHIP LOAN
This loan can be accessed by final year students. It is provided only for students needing assistance to cover financial costs such as accommodation, food, books, transport, travel necessary for field trips and projects. The maximum amount that may be granted is three thousand dollars (TT$3,000.00).
Interested students must be interviewed by the Director of Student Advisory Services prior to completing the application form. The Dean of the Faculty to which the student belongs is also asked to make a recommendation based on the student's grades.
It is compulsory that the student has a guarantor and must begin repaying the loan, six (6) months after graduating.

EMERGENCY LOAN
This loan is made available to all registered students in need of urgent financial assistance, in the amount of five hundred dollars ($TT800.00).
Consideration for this loan is based upon students in need of covering basic yet necessary costs such as personal items, food, etc.
Interested students must be interviewed by the Director of Student Advisory Services prior to completing the application form. The applicant must also explain by what means, and the time at which they intend to repay this loan.

Adopt A Student
This is a programme whereby staff members of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine make a monthly contribution to a fund which is used for students needing financial assistance.
The fund is managed by the office of Student Advisory Services. Needy students are identified through other programmes offered by our Office such as UWI Temps and Hardship Loan. The process is as follows:
- Students needing assistance can contact the Office of Student Advisory Services for an appointment to be interviewed by the Director. Upon the Director’s approval, the student will be required to complete an application form;
- A committee will review and consider the applications. The committee will also investigate and interview applicants to determine their financial needs, before making the final selection.
- Students with financial needs who applied for bursaries but were unsuccessful in obtaining a bursary will also be given consideration
- The needs of students placed on the programme, would be reviewed every six (6) months.
