The Department for Financial Advisory Services is pleased to invite online applications for Scholarships & Bursaries for the 2017 - 2018 academic year:-

MAKANDAL DAAGA SCHOLARSHIP IN LAW – 2017/2018
The Faculty of Law, UWI, St. Augustine is pleased to invite online applications for the Makandal Daaga Scholarship in law from suitable applicants for admission into the LLB program  for the 2017-2018 academic year:-

  • [ February 2017 – May 15th 2017] – Prospective students who have simultaneously applied for entry into the UWI St. Augustine Campus, Faculty of Law.

*Notification of results for this scholarship will be communicated via the Faculty of Law.

NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

Notification of awards will be communicated as follows:

Continuing Students: August – November 2017
First Year/New Students: October – November 2017

Successful applicants will be notified by phone &/or email only when a decision is taken and background checks have been completed. 

Successful applicants who accept additional monetary awards will be required to declare those awards to the Department of Financial Advisory Services. Failure to do so will be deemed as intentional dishonesty and penalties will apply.  See Guidelines.

Attempts will be made to notify unsuccessful applicants by email according to the availability of resources. Such notifications are likely to be conducted from November 2017.

CAVEHILL CAMPUS 

The following Scholarships are administered by the Cave Hill Campus but are tenable at any Campus of the University of the West Indies.   

Additionally, all applicants must comply with the relevant instructions given at the Cave Hill Campus Scholarships and Bursaries website.

The Police Wives Association [Barbados] Educational Awards and Bursaries

Duration:

3-5 years

Eligibility:

The Award is open to all persons who have gained admission to a University to pursue full-time study leading to a degree. Special consideration will be given to children of persons directly employed with Law enforcement agencies. 1. The Bursaries are open to persons pursuing full-time study at a University or Tertiary Level Institution. Bursaries may also be awarded for Technical level study.

Eligibility:

Open to nationals of Grenada and St. Lucia who have gained admission to the UWI and to the Programme in respect of which he/she has applied for the Scholarship.

Minimum of EC$15,000 per annum.

Eligibility:

The Scholarships are offered to students at any campus of the University of the West Indies in any discipline as follows:
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Barbados
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Jamaica
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of Trinidad & Tobago
• Two (2) scholarships for nationals of the Bahamas
• Three (3) scholarships for nationals of the OECS territories
• One (1) scholarship for a national from any Caribbean country who is the child of an employee of the Bank.

4.       The Ralph Boyce Scholarships (sponsored by the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Ltd)

Duration:

Eligibility:

Nationals of Barbados who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies to read for a degree in any discipline. Candidates must be between the ages of 16-25 years and pursuing a First Degree, first year, full-time studies at any Campus of the University of the West Indies. Candidates must be members in good standing of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited for at least three (3) years.

Value:

BDS$7,500.00 for studies at Cave Hill Campus, BDS$9,000.00 for studies at any other Campus of the University of the West Indies.

Oran Family Trust Scholarship

Duration:

up to 3 years

Eligibility:

Barbadian nationals who have gained admission to the University of the West Indies to read for an undergraduate degree majoring in Engineering, Computer Science/Information Technology or Environmental Science.

Value:

Scholarship: BDS$ 2,500.00 per annum Bursaries: The value of the bursaries shall be determined annually.

Criteria:

Academic merit and financial need.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a short essay of approximately 500 words on “What I will be studying and why should I receive this Scholarship” or “If I had the power to solve one problem in this world, what would it be and why.”
