Mr. Anil Waite, one of SLDD's students who is visually impaired, was recently featured in the February 2012 issue of the UWI Today magazine. UWI St. Augustine's Deputy Principal/ SLDD'S Head of Department, Prof. Rhoda Reddock address to University of the Western Cape graduating class of 2012, where she was awarded a honorary doctorate.

Prof. Rhodda Reddock's address to the graduating class of 2012 at the University of Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa was recently featured in the April 2012 issue of the UWI Today magazine in an article titled "A long love story". SLDD's student - First Visually Impaired Person to complete a B.SC. in IT at the UWI.

The Academic Support/Disabilities Liaison is proud to announce that one of its students, Mr. Anil Waite, became the first visually impaired student to graduate with honours from the University of the West indies with a B.Sc. in Information Technology. Conference on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)

SLDD was recently invited to attend a conference on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) which was held by The National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in collaboration with Disabled Peoples’ International of T&T (DPITT). This conference was held on Saturday November 17th 2012.

SLDD Student Winner of the Wayne Naranjit’s Disability Studies Prize 2013

Ms.Erica John graduated in October 2013 with a First Class Honors in Psychology with a minor in Social Policy from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Faculty of Social Sciences. She is also winner of the Wayne Naranjit Prize for Social Disability Studies and winner of the Social Policy Prize.

Ms. Erica John has been a registered student of the Student Life and Development Department since Semester I - 2011/2012. She suffers from sickle cell anemia which is a condition which can lead to various copmplications including chronic pain and can be triggered by stress and excessive heat or cold. Despite this, Ms. John was able to show how persistence, ambition, the belief in pray and self-motivation are the keys to success for her accomplishments. Please click below to view her story.

On Saturday 25th October, Ms. Alana Gajadhar graduated from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus with a Masters in Education with a concentration on curriculum.
