Indoor Court Rules | Fitness Centre Rules

Rules and Regulations for indoor court

  • Only athletes and designated officials are allowed on the multipurpose court
  • Athletes must wear soft rubber soled closed up footwear on the multipurpose court
  • Users must wipe their footwear on the mats before going on the multipurpose court
  • Athletes are required to attire themselves in the standard or appropriate gear for their respective sport
  • Changing of clothes must be done only in the designated changing rooms
  • Ball playing is not allowed in the corridors or changing rooms
  • Glass bottles and glass containers are not allowed on the multipurpose court or anywhere inside of the centre
  • No eating or drinking is allowed on the multipurpose court
  • In the event of any liquids spilling on the multipurpose or anywhere inside of the centre, Maintenance must be informed immediately
  • Furniture or other objects should not be placed on the multipurpose court without Management’s approval and supervision
  • Any marking or placing of adhesive tapes on the multipurpose court must be approved and supervised by Management
  • Equipment should not be tampered with or adjusted without Management’s approval and supervision
  • No smoking is allowed inside the Centre
  • All litter must be placed in bins provided
  • The corridors leading to the multipurpose court and the aisles of the spectator stands must be kept clear at all times
  • Obscene language, fighting, unsportswoman or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated anywhere in the Centre
  • Management reserves the right to remove from the Centre anyone found in breach of the above rules and regulations

Fitness Centre Rules (top)

The University of the West Indies Sport and Physical Education Centre is an equal-access working facility for the use of current University of the West Indies, St. Augustine students, student-athletes, faculty and staff.

Membership (top)

  • Membership is non-transferable and non-refundable.
  • Membership cards cannot be backdated.
  • Members are allowed three (3) one hour sessions per week for weight training inclusive of spin classes.
  • Members must hold a current membership card, which shall be produced on every occasion that a member uses the facility.

Access to facility (top)

  • Before using the fitness centre, all members must sign in at the fitness centre reception desk, producing their membership card which must be left at the desk until the member’s one hour session is completed.
  • Members will not be allowed to enter the fitness centre, if a fitness centre attendant is not present.
  • The fitness centre floor must be cleared by 9:45 p.m.

Lockers (top)

  • Lockers are issued for the one hour duration of a session at the fitness centre and must be cleared after use.
  • Members are advised not to leave money or valuables in the fitness centre lockers.

Attire (top)

Exercise attire is required.  Wear clean attire appropriate to your workout to reduce skin contact with equipment and thus reduce the spread of body oils and germs, and to prolong the life of the equipment.  The following should be noted:

  • A HAND TOWEL is mandatory upon entry into the fitness centre area and the towel must cover the fitness centre member’s back area.
  • FOOTWEAR
    • Allowed- Closed-toe athletic shoes with laces that cover the foot and provide support are mandatory.
      Prohibited- Open-toed footwear, sandals, flip-flops, crocs; gymnastic or dance shoes; leather-soled street shoes; muddy, dusty or dirty shoes; spiked shoes, cleats or metal/rubber spikes shoes.
  • UPPER BODY
    • Allowed- T-shirt, sweatshirts and tops that cover the torso.
      Prohibited- Sports bras, cut-off t-shirts, cropped tanks, string tank tops, halter-tops or altered shirts of any kind that allow the full torso to be exposed.
  • LOWER BODY
    • Accepted- Shorts or sweatpants that adequately cover your anatomy during exercise is required.
      Prohibited – Shorts with extra wide leg openings, pants with buttons, metal zippers, metal rivets, belts and belt loops.
      Management reserves the right to refuse entrance to the fitness centre if inappropriate exercise attire is worn.
      Rejection/Termination of Membership
  • The management of the University of the West Indies reserves the right to reject an application for the renewal of membership and at any time may terminate a membership.

 Assumption of Risk (top)

  • Members must ensure that they are medically fit to undertake activity and should not use the fitness centre facilities whilst under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
  • All individuals are strongly encouraged to have a physical examination from a licensed medical professional prior to beginning or re-starting an exercise programme.
  • Members and guests assume a risk of injury or even death while participating in fitness and recreational activities. Participation in all activities is on a voluntary basis and at the individual’s own risk.
  • Members are responsible for ensuring that while in the fitness centre they do nothing to risk injury to themselves or any other person.

General Rules (top)

    • No Food, Gum, or Tobacco - No chewing gum, tobacco, or food allowed. Water is permitted if contained in a plastic bottle with a secured top.
    • No Profanity – No cussing or swearing is permitted. Failure to abide by this rule will result in your membership being withdrawn.
    • Clean After Use - Disinfectant wipes are provided to clean all equipment.  Members shall demonstrate appropriate etiquette and clean the equipment seats, backs and hand grips after use.
    • Personal Hygiene- Members are reminded to maintain their personal hygiene which includes wearing deodorant and clean clothes during exercise.
    • Return Equipment – Members must return bars, weights and other equipment to their proper storage racks.
    • Comments or Concerns - All concerns and maintenance needs should be reported to the attendants on duty or to the front desk.
