Approximately US$20,000 in prizes will be won by over 600 runners who are expected to participate at UWI’s 2nd International Half-Marathon on Sunday November 6, 2005 starting from the Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), at St. Augustine.
Among the runners would be internationally renowned John Muriethi Muriuki (Kenya) and Firaya Sultanova-Zhdanova (Ukrainian) who would be returning to Trinidad for the second time to defend their titles. Also expected to participate in the race are regional and international students as well as amateur and professional athletes from around the globe.
The race will start at 6:00 a.m. at the UWI SPEC and runners will proceed eastward along a 13.1 mile course, along the traffic-free Priority Bus Route up to Mausica Junction and back.
The first male and female to cross the finish line will each receive TT$12,600 while a special record incentive will be up for grabs. Additional prizes will also be awarded to the physically challenged male and female - first, second and third place; Over 70 male and female; and UWI staff - male and female. |
