Both Vice Chancellor E. Nigel Harris and Principal of the St. Augustine Campus Bhoendradatt Tewarie were present for the inaugural conference on the Life and Work of Dr. Eric Eustace Williams initiated by Erica Williams Connell, daughter of the late Dr. Eric Williams.
Sponsored by British Gas and organized by University of Sheffield, the one day conference focused on “Education in the British West Indies,” a seminal assessment of the state of education in the Caribbean region written in 1946.
The St. Augustine campus is the home of the Eric Williams Memorial Collection (EWMC) which is housed in the main library. A visit to this collection is often built into the itinerary of academics, politicians, cultural activists and statesmen who visit Trinidad and Tobago from time to time.
