Health researchers meet

Vice Chancellor of The UWI, Prof E. Nigel Harris will give one of four feature lectures at the 54th annual scientific meeting of the Caribbean Health Research Council (CHRC). His lecture is titled “Forging a new generation of medical researchers for the 21st Century Caribbean” and will be delivered at the Annual Research Conference which takes place from April 14-16, 2011 at the Princess Hotel in Guyana.

At this year’s Conference there will be over 100 presentations of original health research in addition to lectures, skills-building workshops and the awards banquet. Workshops include a two-day Study Design Workshop and a Breakfast Session on Getting Your Research Published.

The other three feature lectures will be: “The challenge of HIV prevention in the Caribbean” by Prof J. Peter Figueroa, “Improving the use of evidence in practice,” by Dr Vivek Goel, and “Research: A priority for health in the Caribbean,” by Dr Donald T. Simeon.

Registration fees are US$290 before March 21 and US$350 afterwards. Delegates have entry to all oral and poster sessions, coffee breaks each day, lunch on April 14 and 15 as well as entry to the awards banquet at which two outstanding Caribbean researchers will be honoured. Delegates will be taken on free tours courtesy of the Ministry of Health on the afternoons of Friday April 15 and Saturday April 16.
