When Superman’s power was not enough

As part of an ongoing campaign to sensitize staff and students to security issues, the St. Augustine Campus hosted a Security Forum on September 12 at the JFK Quadrangle. The theme of this year’s security campaign is “Sec-UR-ity, UR @ the centre.”

Staff and students have expressed concern about security both on and off campus, and this forum was meant to be a space for dialogue that would enable improved measures, but also to raise awareness about what already exists.

Despite a blitz of messages to staff and students, the provision of shuttles from the Mt Hope location, and even visits by Superman, the turnout was disappointingly poor. Two new hotlines were introduced though: UWI Mobile Police Post – 645-1594 and the Campus Security Emergency Hotline – 662-4123.
