Subsequent to its visit at the CLL, during which the representatives were particularly impressed by the high-calibre of the CLL’s Japanese progrcccamme and the number of students participating in the JET programme, the representatives invited the Centre to join its JF Nihongo or “Sakura” Network. This network, inaugurated in 2008, consists of 127 core organisations who work collaboratively to ensure the quality of Japanese-language education worldwide. The CLL’s invitation to join the “Sakura” network is a milestone worthy of praise since it establishes itself as the only Caribbean institution to have ever done so. Its membership status is also significant due to the increased opportunities for professional and/or academic development for teachers and students of Japanese both locally and in Japan. Japanese is one of the 10 foreign languages taught at the CLL and one of the 4 credit-bearing courses offered. Registration for Semester I classes 2016/2017 will begin on August 22, 2016.
