Analytical Instrumentation Workshop

Analytical Instrumentation Workshop

Context and Background

This workshop is designed to provide basic training on three (3) main analytical techniques (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) that are commonly utilized in various laboratories/industries. The intentions of this workshop are: (i) to complement the instrumentation experience that students would have attained during their undergraduate degree, (ii) to provide an avenue for those who have limited experience on analytical instrumentation to enhance their knowledge, and (iii) to offer a revision of these particular techniques for those who may require such.

Learning Outcomes for the Workshop

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basic theory & concepts of each analytical technique
  • Identify key components of each analytical instrumentation
  • Develop methods for analyses
  • Troubleshoot commonly encountered errors in each technique
  • Understand good laboratory practices
  • Familiarize themselves with basic sample preparation, sample introduction and data processing
