Knowledge of Contract Law, Business Law, Real Property, Environmental Law and Public International Law would be an asset to understanding this course. This course is designed to give students a high level and critical thinking about fundamental legal issues associated with the oil and gas industry. It will include a study of the legal rights attached to the petroleum sector and an analysis of the nature and protection of interests and legal arrangements found in the oil and gas industry. The course will allow students to develop a strong foundation in the fundamentals of oil and gas law; and a strong understanding of oil and gas contracts, leases and liability issues involved in the oil and gas. Knowledge of Oil and Gas Law is a specialist area and will help to prepare students for a 21st Century law career. In addition, the course is designed to encourage creative and critical thinking, effective oral and written communication skills, and strong ethical values.
