This course is designed to develop students’ understanding of key principles of patent law and to enable them to apply these to issues that arise in the information and technologically advanced age. The students will examine issues relating to the process for registering a patent, patentability requirements, ownership, infringement and remedies. With the increasing emphasis in the Commonwealth Caribbean on innovation, it is critical that students are aware of the methods by which their innovations can be protected. The knowledge gained will better enable them to advise persons in respect of not only the process for protecting technology assets but also whether the subject matter is worthy of protection, and what remedies are available to them if infringement occurs.
