The course discusses the business environment within the informal sector, small and medium enterprises, sole traders, the NGOs, and CBOs. It discusses the unique challenges to the conduct of business within this sector. It treats with the principal weaknesses of management operations and practice in the sector and the role of documentation, availability and use of technology, written and oral communication and the preparation of a business plan as well as managing finance, organisational structure, applications of management tools in respect of time, cost, and quality management. It discusses the unique challenges of applying management tools to this sector. The course is about identifying and studying the unique nature of small business and seeks to answer the question; does small business require a separate and distinct managerial strategy and distinct tools?<\/p>\n
