Programme Overview<\/h4>\n

This is a rigorous, research-intensive programme designed to develop advanced expertise in the theory and practice of agricultural extension and rural development. It prepares scholars and professionals to critically examine and influence how agricultural knowledge is generated, communicated, and applied, particularly within the Caribbean context. Emphasizing participatory approaches, adult learning, communication for development, and policy analysis, the programme enables students to conduct original research that addresses complex issues such as farmer engagement, innovation diffusion, climate-smart agriculture, and the strengthening of rural institutions. Graduates emerge as thought leaders and change agents, equipped to shape agricultural extension systems, inform policy, and contribute to sustainable development through roles in academia, government, NGOs, and international organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates gaining direct entry into the PhD programme are required to pass a minimum of 12 credits of taught graduate courses approved by the department.<\/p>\n

PhD Thesis<\/strong><\/p>\n

The requirements for submission of the PhD thesis are outlined in the general regulations for postgraduate students.<\/p>\n

Entry Requirements<\/h4>\n

Applicants who hold an MPhil Degree or other research-based Master\u2019s Degree in Agricultural Extension or related disciplines are eligible for direct entry to the PhD programme.<\/p>\n

Applicants who hold taught Master\u2019s degrees may also be eligible for direct entry if the programmes included a research component of at least 25% of the total credits for the degree and if they attained at least a B+ average in both the taught\u00a0courses and the research project.<\/p>\n

All other candidates with Master\u2019s qualifications applying for admission to the PhD must register first for the MPhil and then apply to upgrade their registration to the PhD programme in accordance with the general regulations.<\/p>\n
