FREN 3501 The French Caribbean Novel

Pre-requisites: FREN 1600 or FREN 1601

The course invites a critical examination of the narrative techniques and various thematic concerns in the French Caribbean Novel with particular emphasis on the development of a Caribbean aesthetic as seen through the works of Zobel, Schwarz-Bart and Chamoiseau.


Method of Instruction: 2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week
Assessment:
40% in-course assessment (2 coursework assignments - 30% and 1 exposé/class participation - 10%), 60% final examination
