LING 2004 Semantics
Pre-requisite: LING 1001, LING 1002 and LING 1005
This course is designed to examine the field of semantics, through selected topics, such as reference, sense, sense properties and sense relations, predicates, universe of discourse, logic, semantics vs. syntax and semantics vs. pragmatics, and will include basic concepts which explore meaning as a property of expressions abstracted from situations, speakers and hearers.
Method of Instruction: 2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week
Assessment: 40% in-course assessment, 60% final examination
