LING 3909 The Profession of Interpreting (2)

Pre-requisite: LING 2810 Structure and Usage of Jamaican Creole or equivalent

This course introduces students to the field of interpreting and to the role of an interpreter. It defines the communication process, client(s) and situational assessments. The profession of an interpreter, interpreter role and ethics, the process of interpreting, settings and assignments are also examined.

Method of Instruction: 2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week
Assessment: 40% in-course assessment, 60% final examination

This course is part of the Diploma in Caribbean Sign Language Interpreting, and is normally offered in Semester 2.
