LING 5102 Structure of the English Language: Issues for TESOL

Pre-requisites: LING 1001, LING 1002, LING 1005

English language teachers need to have a solid grasp of the structure of the grammar and sound system of modern English. They also need to comprehend its range of usage in relation to other language varieties—both locally and globally—and to come to terms with the notion of International English. In addition, they must be able to equip their students with the same knowledge. This course not only gives them the knowledge base necessary but also discusses approaches to classroom handling of key areas.

Method of Instruction: 3 weekly seminar hours
Assessment: 50% in-course assessment and 50% final examination

This is a course on the Dip TESOL programme, and is normally offered in Semester 2.
