MINOR IN LINGUISTICS


Linguistics can be usefully combined with Anthropology, Communication Studies, Computer Science, History, Literatures in English, any of the Modern Languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi), Physics, Sociology and more. Unless otherwise indicated, all courses are three (3) credit courses. Some courses are offered in alternate years only.

Level I pre-requisites for the Minor are:

LING 1001 Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology (Semester 2)
LING 1002 Introduction to Morphology and Syntax (Semester 1), and
LING 1005 Introduction to Language (Semester 1).

The Minor in Linguistics consists of fifteen (15) Level II/III credits. Students considering a minor in Linguistics can choose any courses in consultation with an Academic Advisor.

Note:
LING 2902 and LING 2903 (formerly LING 2899) Structure and Usage of French-Lexicon Creole (Patois) 1&2 are particularly useful for French Majors. There are no pre-requisites for LING 2902, but the introductory Linguistics courses as well as a good knowledge of French are highly recommended. We will also offer a course in the LING 2803 Change and Development in Selected European Languages, with a focus on Romance Languages, depending on demand. Other courses offered in the (E)LLE BA programme are relevant for teachers in the Modern Languages.
