Spotlight on Modern Languages and Linguistics aims to highlight the wealth of research work carried out in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.

We commemorate:
- UNESCO's annual International Mother Language Day (IMLD) on 21 February
- World Voice Day on 16 April, and
- Jounen Kwéyòl Entennasyonnal (International Creole Day) on 28 October.
Regular Events
• Monthly Staff Seminar Series
On the first Friday of every month, staff members of the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics and the Department of Literary, Cultural and Communication Studies present their research in progress. This is series of regular, informal lunchtime meetings serving as a forum for academic staff to share and discuss aspects of their ongoing research with colleagues. We have heard from Dr Godfrey Steele, Dr Louis Regis, Dr Nicole Roberts and Ryan Durgasingh and Dr Giselle Rampaul, Rómulo Guédez, Dr Jo-Anne Ferreira, Dr Ben Braithwaite, and Dr Gabrielle Hezekiah.
